	Appalachian Hand Carved Wooden Ducks \| home About Us \| Products \| More Information \| Contact Us About Us Welcome to the About Us page or Appalachian Hand Carved Wooden Ducks Hi my name is Jim Harvey , I live and work in Garrett County Maryland near Deep Creek Lake. I was born in West Virginia and also finished high school in Elk Garden W.VA but I have lived in far Western Maryland just across the Potomac river all my life. I worked in the coal mine for 18 to 20 years [29 to 36 inches high most of the time] but I didn't mind it when I was younger but later I decided to become a carpenter. My wife Donna decided she wanted to work with me so now we sub-contract carpenter work around the Deep Creek Lake area [anything from trim, framing ,decks ect.]. In 1987 I saw a few carved ducks in a house we were working on and decided to try my hand at carving. I enjoyed carving so much I couldn't quit . I've carved people, animals and other thing but I like to carve ducks the best. About 5 years ago I got intrested in hand carving F-style mandolins, and fiddles [ both the front and back are hand carved from wood about 3/4 thick] and also building guitars.I have been selling these locally in sport shops and word of mouth for a few years and thought I would try internet sales. I always enjoy hearing and talking to people that are interested in wood carving,guitar building ,mandolin and fiddle carving but as you can see by this [book ha ha ] that I've wrote I'll talk about anything.
